June 2013 Meeting

Our June meeting contained another excellent talk from Teresinha Roberts, this time on “True Blue – Woad and Indigo”.

She took us through the different dye plants used around the world to give blue dyes, with example plants so that we could compare them, and a discussion on their cultivation, especially which ones would grow successfully in this country.

She also gave us a comprehensive tour of the history of these different dyes, along with lots of examples of items coloured with these different dyes to pass around. All in all this was a very interesting afternoon, with lots to see and handle as well as dyes and seeds for sale.
