Dorset Guild of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers

Promoting traditional textile crafts across Dorset

Dorset County Show

The Dorset County Show is an annual celebration of Dorset & its countryside, held near the county town of Dorchester. Our Guild has exhibited at the Show for many years with a demonstration stand in the Homecraft area of the showground.

This year the show will be on the 7th & 8th September and we have negotiated with the Show Committee for a prime spot in the sheep area near the main show-ring, in the Fleece Tent. Being next to the fleece exhibits should make explaining the characteristics of different types of fleece much easier. This does mean that we will be at the show on Sunday only, but it also means that Guild members will be able to sell their (non-commercial) items on our stand as well as demonstrating our crafts.

Anyone that wants to sell items and help out on the stand please put your name down on the list at the June meeting, or contact us via the form below

Another first for this year – we have sponsored two classes in the Homecraft Section:

  1. Class 609: 2oz Skein of Hand Spun Yarn, plus a 10cm sample square produced from the yarn to show the finish, accompanied by a description including type of fibre, method of spinning and information on any dyes used
  2. Class 610: A Hand Woven Item, plus a short description of the inspiration including type of yarn, weave structure, sett of fabric, information on any dyes used and stating if design is original, copy, adapted or kit

There is also a Challenge Cup for the best overall exhibit in these two classes

The schedules are out now, available from the Show website (you can enter online too) and with an entry fee of only 50p we encourage you to enter – let’s make a good showing for our first foray into the Homecraft classes
